UEFA president Michel Platini has appealed against his suspension by the ruling football body FIFA at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The CAS said in a statement Friday that Platini "has filed an urgent appeal also requested that the current provisional suspension be stayed until a final decision of FIFA on the merits of this case."
Platini was suspended last month over a "disloyal payment" he received from FIFA president Joseph Blatter who has also been suspended by the FIFA ethics committee.
The appeal before CAS came after the FIFA appeal committee upheld the original 90-day suspension until January against Platini and Blatter on Wednesday.
The CAS said it "will determine the next steps of this procedure next week, after consultation with the parties concerned."
Platini seeks a quick solution as he seeking the FIFA presidency at extraordinary congress on February 26. A final FIFA ruling on his case is outstanding, and he would have to pass an integrity check if he escapes sanctions in order to become a presidential candidate.
