Egypt's Chamber of Audiovisual Media Industry (CAMI) decided Tuesday to ban media appearances by TV presenters Wael El-Ibrashi, Ahmed Shobeir and football commentator Ahmed El-Tayeb for one week pending investigations into an on-air fist fight.
"The chamber recommends that TV broadcast satellite channels Sada El-Balad and Dream ban any media appearances by the three men for one week until investigations are over," the chamber said in an official statement.
Eight of the chamber's committee members voted in favour of the ban, while three voted against.
The decision by the chamber came after a Saturday episode of El-Ibrashi's prominent late night show 10 o'clock; where Shobeir and El-Tayeb came to blows.
The fight took place following a war of words between the duo over Shobeir's criticism of El-Tayeb's commentating on Zamalek’s latest league match; which was portrayed by the former Egypt goalkeeper as “inciting animosity between Cairo's two rival teams [Ahly and Zamalek].”
Shobeir threw water from a glass towards the commentator sitting at the other end of a long table before rushing for El-Tayeb and physically attacking him.
The rest of the fight was not televised.
