Real Madrid suffered a heavy defeat last night as they were thrashed 5-2 by Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup 2025 final held in Saudi Arabia.
The match proved disappointing for the Los Blancos, with only Kylian Mbappé and Thibaut Courtois showing any positive signs. The score could have been much worse had it not been for Wojciech Szczesny’s second-half red card, which allowed Barcelona to ease off the pressure slightly.
Florentino Perez’s Message to Luka Modric
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez attended the match and watched as his team collapsed against their arch-rivals. Despite the crushing loss, Perez offered words of comfort to Luka Modric during the trophy presentation following the Spanish Super Cup final defeat.
Perez, speaking to the Croatian midfielder who has won more titles than any other player in the club’s history, said, “At some point, we have to lose a final, don’t we?”
Despite this setback, Modric continues to enjoy success this season, having already added two trophies to his collection with Real Madrid, including the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The road ahead for Real Madrid remains filled with opportunities. The next challenge will be their Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash against Celta Vigo, followed by a return to La Liga action against Las Palmas.
