In an attempt to bring down 'nuisance value' of selfie-sticks, the Wimbledon championship has prohibited the use of the trending device in the grounds this year.

The device, which extends users' reach to capture self-portrait photos with a smartphone or a camera, had been earlier banned from a number of venues in view of its tendency to obstruct the view of other spectators.

In its guide for ticketholders, the All England Lawn Tennis Club stated that in common with many other major sports and entertainment events and cultural attractions, the championships would not allow selfie sticks into the grounds, Sport24 reported.

The sticks have also been banned by the English Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur and have been barred from the Colosseum in Rome and the Smithsonian museum in Washington.
