Mexico battled adversity all the way to the World Cup finals as they looked set to miss out on the tournament at multiple times over the course of their qualifying run.

El Tri will have to win this match if they are looking to have the best chance of progressing to the round of 16, but African side Cameroon will be looking to do the same.

All time leading scorer for his nation, Samuel Eto'o will captain The Indomitable Lions to what he hopes is an opening day victory over a Mexican side whose confidence has been shaken in recent matches and will potentially be off their usual game.

Mexico will be looking to the likes of Giovani dos Santos and Andrew Guardado to be their creative and attacking spark without Javier Hernandez leading the line and veteran defender Rafael Marquez will hopefully be a leader at the back and not a liability.

Group A is one of the most open groups in the tournament and with Brazil taking their opening match as expected, both Mexico and Cameroon have the opportunity to strike first at the potential second place into the knockout rounds.

Mexico Startling XI: Ochoa: Reyes, Marquez, Moreno; Aguilar, Herrera, Pena, Fabian, Guardado; Peralta, Santo.

Cameroon Starting XI: Itandje: Nyom, N'Koulou, Chedjou, Bedimo; Song, Matip, Mbia; Moukandjo, Eto'o, Choupo-Moting.
