Egypt's Zamalek said on Sunday that they reached an agreement to sign Morocco striker Khaled Boutaib for their first winter acquisition.

The 31-year-old left Turkey's Yeni Malatyaspor to join Zamalek, who said they would disclose the deal's details in a news conference on Monday.

"Boutaib met today with chairman Mortada Mansour at his office," Zamalek said in a statement on their official website.

"The chairman wished the player success, saying that he would be a valuable addition to the team in the coming period.

"Boutaib said he is honoured to join Zamalek and that he will do his best to live up to expectations."

He is expected to become Zamalek's first choice frontman following the departure of Congolese Kabongo Kasongo to Saudi Arabia's Al-Wehda on a loan deal. The team's Swiss coach Christian Gross usually plays with a lone striker.

Boutaib played for several French clubs, including Strasbourg where he had a brief spell in the 2016/2017 season.

He made 20 appearances with Morocco, scoring eight goals including one in an exciting 2-2 draw with Spain at last year's World Cup in Russia when he robbed Sergio Ramos, broke clear and fired home.
