Student entrepreneurs thrive at Dubai Women’s College
Dubai Women’s College, a Higher Colleges of Technology flagship institution ran, for the first time, a mini-Entrepreneurship Competition and Showcase (ECS) for three days from the 24 – 26th May. The ECS showcased 17 businesses from Year 1 Bachelor groups.
The aim of the ECS is for business students to put into practice those theories studied throughout the term in the organizational behavior, marketing, financial accounting and micro-economics courses. Students will get first-hand experience at planning and subsequently actioning these plans to run a profit-turning operation over the three days.
A variety of businesses ranging from restaurants to clothing, accessories and games showcased student talent and creativity. Ethical conduct and concern for the environment were taken into consideration by businesses. Prizes were awarded for the best booth and the booth offering the best customer service.
Dr. Monica Gallant, Chair of the Business Department stated, “The ECS is an excellent project that allows the students to apply and integrate their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. It also ignites the entrepreneurial spirit in the young women, many of who go on to run small businesses throughout their studies.”
The ECS was opened to families and friends of DWC students and operated from 0900 – 1600 on the 24th and 26th and from 1000 – 2100 on the 25th, designated as family day.
