Marwar Mohammad plays a deaf mother in "Sada" (Echo)
The Saudi film “Sada” (Echo), starring Marwa Mohammad playing a deaf mother, made its way into the Sixth Annual Gulf Cinema Festival. The Saudi actress gave a shout out at the event to Director Samir Aref who went to all strides to ensure the flick was top notch.
Marwa overcame her fears of playing a deaf person by learning sign language from a specialized professor, alongside the other actors, and she is totes proud of how the film turned out, according to Sayidaty.net.
The son in the film isn’t deaf like his parents, but he has his own struggle with depression and harassment from friends at school who make fun of his parents’ condition. After miraculously surviving a car crash, the boy is finally able to understand and accept his parents.
The film promotes helping people with disabilities, which the actors carry through in very believable roles. They took their work so much to heart, that they even began signing to each other off camera.
