Rania Mahmoud Yassin Acts 'Patient' for Ramadan
Egyptian actress Rania Mahmoud Yassin, who comes from a very 'active' family, the daughter of renowned actors, Mahmoud Yassin and Shahira (former actress) and married to actor Mohammad Riyadh, is preparing for her lead role as Zainab Al Ghazali in the religious series “Um Assabereen” or “The Mother of Patience” - to be aired in Ramadan.
The series follows the life of Egyptian Islamic activist-preacher, Zainab el Ghazali, from the cradle to the grave. It sheds light on the most important period of her life, her role in the Muslim Women's Association alongside Huda Shaarawi, and her involvement with the Muslim Brotherhood, until her death, aged 88.
Rania Yassin has recently dismissed the rumors circulating that this series was making a political statement in support of the Muslim Brotherhood, in defense of their ideas and political history. She said: ”flirting with the Brotherhood or any other successful political party that is in power just now is a stupid move as no one can predict whether this party will hold on to power or not. The time of flirting with political parties and regimes is over”.
She also added that this series was inspired from the Egyptian Revolution which paved the way to tackling social political issues with religious ingredients through film. This is revolutionary for the world of Egyptian cinema, where these kind of works were forbidden pre-revolution.
