Al-Futtaim Sports Club supports Japan Earthquake victims

Following the devastating earthquake that hit Japan on March 11^th 2011, and in honor of its long business history with Japanese partners, Al Futtaim, through its Al-Futtaim Sports Club (AFSC), organised a family fun day to raise funds for the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief UAE Fund. 

Held at Al Badia Golf Club concert venue-Dubai Festival City, the Group-wide event comprised a six-a-side football tournament in addition to a full fun programme including drumming sessions, pony rides, henna designs and other fun activities.

Over 1200 Al-Futtaim Group employees, their family and friends provided vociferous support for 50 Al-Futtaim company football teams representing every group division.

While some soaked in the fresh air at the club’s lawn with picnic lunches, or enjoying Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City’s buffet, others partied enthusiastically with caricaturists, and clowns, while kids jumped tirelessly on the bouncy castles and had their faces coloured with funny designs. 

Airline tickets, hotel stays, shopping and dinner vouchers, hampers and various electronic and household goods were given away by Al-Futtaim partners and friends at the special charity raffle draw.

On the occasion, Ian Plumley, AFSC Event Chairman commented: “Al Futtaim Sports Club aims at encouraging greater interaction and team building throughout the Group. However, through this day, we decided to mix fun with good cause. The members of our committee put a lot of effort and worked tirelessly to make this event happen with a main objective in mind, to help offering support to the earthquake victims in Japan. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our employees for this great initiative”.

Al Futtaim Sports Club encourages the Group’s employees to participate in their preferred sporting interests with their colleagues whilst also providing the opportunity to involve their families in a fun environment.

He added: “I am so proud of the outcome of this event. The participation of 50 Al-Futtaim teams demonstrated the positive spirit of its employees. This event marked the start of a series of similar experiences in the future, set to strengthen social ties between the Group’s staff, and break the business formal barriers in a casual and fun atmosphere”.
