The Saudi Ministry of Labor the Public Transport Authority signed an MoU last week to Saudize car rental offices and drivers working in taxis belonging to authorized vehicle-directing companies.
The deal aimed at creating about 200,000 part-time and full-time jobs for Saudis in the public taxi sector over the coming three years in line with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.

The MoU was signed by Deputy Minister of Labor Ahmad Al-Humaidan and PTA President Rumaih Al-Rumaih at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the ministry in the presence of Minister of Transport Sulaiman Al-Hamdan, Minister of Labor and Social Development Ali Al-Ghafees, and Public Security Director Lt. Gen. Othman Al-Mohrej.
The deal aims at providing training programs for Saudis so as to enable them to take up jobs in this vital sector.
Under the plan, Saudis will be provided training and employment in taxi firms that are linked to the Wasl electronic platform, and this system will help security authorities to identify taxi drivers and get information on their trips.
The Ministry of transport last year implemented the new regulation under which all taxis would be linked to any one of the authorized transport companies which provide app-based services.
