The 40th anniversary of the establishment of the African Development Bank (ADB) has been commemorated in Egypt.
The ADB's Country Office staff in Egypt Sunday held a meeting with representatives of the Egyptian Government, media as well as some development partners within the framework of the activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the institution. Celebrations are based on the theme: "Building today, a better Africa tomorrow".
This meeting, attended by some 20 journalists and 10 representatives of ADB Group partners (Government, World Bank, United Nations Development Programme - UNDP - and so on) focused on ADB Group development activities over the last 40 years. The ADB representatives also presented to the participants the Bank's project portfolio in Egypt.
Mrs. Souraya Abo El Saoud, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of International cooperation, on this occasion addressed her best wishes to the Bank which, she said, is among Egypt's best development partners.
Participants were given a commemorative CD of the 40th anniversary. This CD includes the list of projects and programmes funded by the ADB Group in each of its borrowing countries, a chronological recap of the Bank's history, a Bank-at-Forty "editorial" statement, write-ups on strategic sectors of Bank intervention, a Q&A of the ten most asked questions (and answers) on the Bank, a photo bank of pictures of ADB past Presidents, current President and Vice Presidents, ADB premises in Abidjan (statutory Headquarters) and Tunis (Temporary Relocation Agency), projects pictures categorized by sector and country...
The meeting was enhanced by the participation of a young Egyptian student who won the 2nd prize in an international competition on essay writing organized by the ADB Group within the framework of the commemoration of its 40th anniversary. (menareport.com)
