Some tens of millions of Israeli shekels were looted from Tel Aviv’s Discount Bank main branch over the weekend. The thieves managed to break into one of the two rooms housing the bank’s safety deposit boxes, emptying at least 451 units of their contents, reported Jerusalem Post

Discount Bank clients pay 500 Israeli shekels ($107) a year for the use of the branch’s 5,000 deposit boxes. Israeli security authorities believe that bank employees were involved in the burglary and are interrogating two guards who were on duty over the weekend.

The Discount Bank is one of Israel's three largest financial institutions with over 260 branches, subsidiaries and representative offices in Israel and abroad, providing domestic and international banking and financial services. In 2000, the Bank purchased from its competitor Bank Leumi 100 percent control of the ICC Visa, the country’s largest credit card firm, and its subsidiary, Diners Club Israel. — (menareport.com)
