Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) and International Turnkey Systems (ITS) have announced the implementation of a core banking and disaster recovery project. The new system allows a more efficient, reliable and secure managing of mission-critical information systems.
The project, which was initiated in December 2000, was designed to address two main objectives: to eliminate any single point of failure by providing full redundancy of the main banking systems in the head office; and provide online replication of all transactions from the live system in the head office to the back-up system in Sharjah, whereby the back-up system would have updated transactions on an up-to-the-minute basis.
The ITS solution implemented at ADIB was based on Sun cluster and SNDR, whereby any transaction is instantly written to dual systems (the cluster) and to the backup system in Sharjah. The networking solution is based on Cisco and designed by the internal resources of ADIB, whereby the branch and ATMs can seamlessly use the redundant link to head office or the disaster recovery Site.
“ADIB is one of the few banks that run the core banking system on the latest open UNIX platform, and this is the first implementation of Sun cluster with SNDR in a financial institution in the Middle East,” said Adel Al-Zarouni, ADIB VP ITD.
ITS was selected in 1998 to provide ADIB with five banking systems: Phoenix Core Banking System, Tradewind for Trade Finance, Mosaic for Branch Automation, CSF for the ATM Switch, and Diavox for Telephone Banking. To date, ADIB has invested 19 million Emirati dirhams with ITS to create its Information Technology (IT) systems.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank provides Islamic financial services, operating in accordance with Shariah principles. ITS is an IT systems integrator, employing 650 staff across the Arabian Gulf, Levant, and North Africa. — (menareport.com)
