The University of Abu Dhabi (ADU) initialed an agreement with the UAE-based Al Meraikhi General Contracting group for the construction of the institution’s new campus in Khalifa City ‘A’ at a signing ceremony held on December 13, 2005. The agreement was signed between Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman, ADU, and Jassim Al Meraikhi, President, Al Meraikhi General Contracting.
“We are excited to begin this first phase of our campus expansion. The Board of ADU is confident that Al Meraikhi General Contracting Group will complete the work efficiently and meet the required deadline,” said Al Dhaheri. “Our decision to build this larger and better-fitted campus stems from the growth we have experienced at ADU this past year.”
The main educational building will cover a total area of 43,000m2 and includes a 630 seat auditorium; 8 shared laboratories; 8 non-shared laboratories; 4 semi-tiered classrooms; 50 classrooms; a food court area fit with 6 food outlets; a fully equipped medical clinic, as well as a general store, grocery store, laundry and post office/stationery shop. The project will accommodate both female and male departments, and will have wireless LAN connection throughout the building.
“We look forward to our collaboration with the prestigious Al Meraikhi General Contracting Group; the partnership undoubtedly will make this project a success. The new campus is a manifestation of our commitment to the nation’s youth through the provision of a first-class facility at a world-class institution,” added Al Dhaheri.
The new campus building is set for completion in September 2006, in time for the Fall 2006 semester.
