Algeria’s National Railroad Transportation Company (SNTF) has selected a consortium of French and Algerian companies to expand the Arab state’s rail network, reported APS. The project has a 48-month construction schedule.
The consortium, consisting of France’s Alstom, Infrarail and Algeria’s Baticim, came in with an offer of 7.8 billion Algerian dinars ($111.6 million). Under the agreement, the group will set up a 300-kilometer electrification system for the networks in Algiers -Thenia, Oued Smar-Gue de Constantine and El Harrach-El Afroun.
SNTF is a semi-autonomous public entity operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport. Passenger traffic on the 4,000-kilometer railroad system is concentrated mostly around the major urban areas, especially the capital. A main railroad line connects major cities along the coast and joins the Moroccan and Tunisian systems at their respective borders. — (menareport.com)
