Algeria: National rail transport company plans expansion

Algeria's national rail transport company (SNTF) intends to renovate its transportation and traction equipments by purchasing 30 electric locomotives, 64 electric multiple-unit trains and 17 new rail cars. By these new purchases, the company wishes to improve the quality of its services, easing congestion on rail traffic and boosting trade.

 

In this respect, Director of SNTF equipments Fatma Zohra Mahiouz told APS that during this current year the company will take delivery of 30 electric locomotives, including 16 with diesel motorization for the traction of goods wagons and 14 others for passengers transportation.  

 

Last year, SNTF announced it was planning to spend US$5 billionin the next five years on improvements.
