Algeria's production of industrial tomato in the countryside is estimated at 48.150 tons in 2004, just about half of the national needs, the president of the Algerian Association of Tomato Operators (ACTOM), Faouzi Hanafi said Sunday in Algiers. According to APS, the national consumption of canned tomato has reached an average of 90,000 tons.
During the first two quarters of 2004, Algeria imported 2,600 tons compared to 12,000 tons in 2003 and 5,000 tons in 2002. (menareport.com)
