Algerian dockers are rejecting suggestions of foreign partnerships and privatization. Abdelmadjid Sidi Saпd, secretary general of the Central Union, said there will be a half-day protest at the suggestions this upcoming Sunday.

M. Abbas, secretary general of the Porters Union at Algiers said plans for privatization would rein the 15,000 dockers who run Algiers' 10 ports. They are also protesting at the speed of the proposed changes, saying that the government is moving too quickly without their consultation.

The dockers have already gathered on the 12 and 13 October at the Mostaganem port to discuss their problems such as the debts at the Djen-Djen port. The Algerian dockers are considered relatively well off for blue collar workers in Algeria.
