Kuwait's fashion retail group Alshaya has contracted Gulf Business Machines (GBM) to expand the its electronic Point of Sale (EpoS) network. The installation is key to meeting the Group's additional IT requirements based on a three-year expansion program it has recently launched, according to a company press release.

IBM's SureOne EpoS system ensures that data from each checkout till at each store in the region is provided to the Group's head office electronically. Besides issuing customer receipts, the system generates precise sales information and supplies inventory and stock levels to store management and brand principals.

The installation of 200 IBM 4840 SurePOS 500 machines will complement more than 750 existing IBM Point of Sale machines. The deployment will be conducted by GBM's branch in Kuwait, Khorafi Business Machines (KBM).

IBM's EpoS technology is part of an integrated IT network and retail merchandising system, which supports the distribution centers operated by the Group in each country. “As we operate according to international retail standards this solution will also make our annual audit a more simplified procedure,” said Zoran Krispinovic, Group IT Manager.

Alshaya Group markets and sells 24 different brands through more than 370 stores in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Lebanon. The group’s retail brands include Debenhams, Mothercare, Liz Claiborne, NEXT, Tommy Hilfiger, The Body Shop, MAC, Etam and Milano. As part of its ongoing expansion drive, the Group is currently exploring retail opportunities in Egypt, Jordan and Syria, according to a company press release.
