The head executive of the Jordanian Central Electricity Generation Company, Rashed Al-Tineh, stated that the winner of the tender for the conversion of the Aqaba Solar Station’s heavy fuel consumption into natural gas consumption will be announced at the end of December 2001, reported Al-Rai. The company is interested in using environment-friendly energy sources instead of fuel. The production capacity of the Aqaba Solar Station stands at 650 megawatts, which is equivalent to 40 percent of the total amount of generated electricity in Jordan. International bidders for the JD 15 million ($21 million) tender are Italy’s Ansaldo, Japan’s Mitsubishi and France’s Alstom. — (menareport.com)
