ALBAWABA - According to Belgian media, Audi has announced that the Brussels plant, which produces the electric Q8 model, will permanently close on February 28, 2025. There will be no layoffs at the facility, which has around 3,000 employees, before the year is over. Instead, talks are being held to find possible purchasers or investors.

In July, the German carmaker, which is a member of the Volkswagen Group, said that the reorganization was brought on by a drop in demand for the Q8 model. According to previous announcements, production for the Q8 will be moved to Mexico.

Employees and unions were unhappy when Audi management told them in September that the Volkswagen Group would not be assigning any new models to the Brussels factory. As a consequence of this disturbance, several employees stopped working and refused to provide the keys to completed cars.

Despite having discussions with more than 20 possible investors, Audi has not yet found a buyer for the site. Volkswagen, meantime, said yesterday that it will shut at least three facilities in Germany, a decision that is anticipated to result in a large number of layoffs.
