Eight international automakers have joined forces to fight spare parts counterfeiters in the Middle East. Founder member of the new Automotive Brand Protection Coalition Middle East are DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, BMW and Audi.

“Although some manufacturers have already made an effort to raise public awareness about the dangers of using fake spare parts it was only the start of a task that we cannot afford to let slip through our fingers,“ said Per V. Rasmusen, president and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Middle East.

“With this new alliance we can work together to stamp out the misuse of our brand names that is costing lives and millions of dollars,“ said Rashid Khan, Nissan Middle East. Members of the coalition agreed to increase their co-operation with the authorities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Levant. They also agreed to make consumers aware of the dangers of buying fake spare parts. — (menareport.com)
