A new law to protect Bahrain's coastal areas was backed in principle by the Shura Council (parliament) Monday. According to GDN, the proposed legislation would bar private investors from buying any coastal land or reclaiming land from the sea, without government permission. Even in such cases, the government will act to ensure direct public access to the sea, stipulates the draft law.
