A bid to cut the amount of private land that can be confiscated for government projects has been blocked by a parliamentary committee. However, according to the GDN, the issue is inclined to be forwarded for parliament for a vote next month.

Under current law, the government can take up to 30 per cent of a private plot of land to develop public projects without compensating the owner. However, MPs - led by Ali Al Samaheeji - submitted a proposal to reduce this figure to 10% last year.
