The Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) has announced Sunday, December 23, tariff cuts on a range of its mobile telephony services. Effective from January 1, 2002, the tariff reductions will apply to registration, per minute rates, monthly rental charges, SMS tariffs, Mobile VoiceMail access, Internet Over Mobile facilities as well as a number of miscellaneous services.
As part of the tariff reductions, Mobile PostPaid registration will be slashed by 43 percent and monthly rental charges will be cut by up to 40 percent. Depending on a customer’s mobile package, post paid peak call charges will also be reduced by up to 16 percent and by up to 13 percent on off-peak rates. In addition, pre-paid or SimSim call charges will be reduced by 26 percent and off-peak rates of 47 percent of the current per minute charge will be introduced.
Batelco Chief Executive Andrew Hearn described the tariff reduction as the result of the most far-reaching review of mobile tariffs since thre company’s inception: “The reduction in mobile tariffs, in line with the recent rounds of cuts in International Direct Dialling (IDD) and Data services tariffs, is an illustration of Batelco's continuing drive to offer value for money for all customers.”
Since 1995, Batelco has invested 55 million Bahraini dinars ($146 million) on the upgrade and maintenance of the mobile network, according to a company press release. — (menareport.com)
