Here is a press release of BG concerning the appraisal wells success drilling in Egypt: BG International and its partner, Edison International, today announced the drilling of two successful appraisal wells in the 50:50 West Delta Deep Marine Concession joint venture in Egypt.

The Simian-2 and Simian-3 wells located 71 and 77km respectively north east of Alexandria, were drilled to appraise the Simian Field discovered in deep waters off the Nile Delta in 1999. The Simian-1 discovery well, located 65km from shore, tested at 44 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd) and was drilled in a water depth of 590 metres. The flow rate was constrained by the capacity of the testing equipment.

The Simian-2 and Simian-3 wells, drilled by Burullus Gas Company, the concession operating company comprising the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (50 per cent), BG International (25 percent) and Edison International (25 percent), have confirmed the extent of the Simian Field. The reservoir quality of the gas-bearing strata and the similarity with the reservoir in Simian-1 means the wells have not required testing.

BG International, Edison International and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) also signed an agreement in March to promote a gas export scheme using liquefied natural gas (LNG). The confirmation of reserves in the Simian Field means that the partners are well positioned to access gas markets along the northern rim of the Mediterranean.

Today's announcement further confirms the commitment of BG International and its partner Edison International to work in close co-operation with the Egyptian Government to develop gas exports from Egypt.

Notes to editors:

West Delta Deep Marine: BG International Limited is the operator of this concession. In addition to the results from Simian-1, a further well, P12/13, located 6km from Simian-1, tested at 45 mmscfd and drilled in a water depth of 530 meters.

BG International, the exploration and international gas supply business of BG Group plc, has been active in Egypt since 1989 and, having achieved major growth and diversification, has significant activities throughout the gas business.

These include developing the Rosetta and Scarab/Saffron gas fields, and developing the gas market and pipeline infrastructure in Upper Egypt, in partnership with Edison International.

Edison International SpA, the international exploration and production division of the Italian Group, Edison, has developed significant activities in Egypt since 1993. Edison is also a partner with Intergen on the Sidi Krir, 680 megawatt power plant project, under construction near Alexandria.
