The number of payment card holders in Lebanon increased by 25 percent in 2001, reaching 407,858 consumers, confirmed statistics recently released by the Banks’ Association. Some 404,094 of that total are resident cardholders, while the remaining are held by non-residents.
The total of purchases charged to payment cards by residents and non-residents in Lebanon in 2001 reached $935 million, compared to $285 million in 1998. Purchases on payment cards by residents abroad surged to $186 million dollars from $123 million dollars during the same period. — (menareport.com)
