China’s Tong Jia company is planning to set up a 22 million Emirati dirham ($5.98 million) manufacturing facility for color television (CTV) sets in Jebel Ali, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The plant’s initial output, estimated at 80,000 sets, is mainly destined for export to European markets. Production is expected to commence in 2003.

China remains a major partner for the UAE, with non-oil trade touching Dh10.25 billion ($2.8 billion) in 2001. China accounts for 9.31 percent of Dubai’s total imports, at Dh7.74 billion. Dubai’s exports to China in 2001 amounted to Dh129,882 of the emirate’s total Dh5.9 million exports. — (menareport.com)
