A delegation representing private sector economic institutions on Wednesday presented His Majesty King Abdullah with the Vision 2020, a much-awaited document outlining the private sector's ambition and vision of Jordan over the next two decades.
Vision 2020 also details the private sector's contribution to economic development planning, according to Rabie Dajani, who presented the document to the King.
Dajani said the document articulates the private sector's views on helping the Kingdom achieve development. The vision has set an ambitious goal of doubling the per capita income of Jordanians within 20 years and responds to the climate of change and modernization as advocated by King Abdullah.
King Abdullah voiced his full support for the private sector's endeavors to strengthen the national economy and achieve sustainable economic and social development, working side by side with the government.
Speaking at a meeting held at the Royal Court and attended by a delegation representing 28 economic organizations, the King expressed his satisfaction with private sector's course of action to improve the people's living conditions and speed up sustainable socio-economic development.
Noting that the private sector's initiative reaffirms the importance of partnership between the public and private sector, King Abdullah described the ideas in the document as the basis for work towards the achievement of development in various fields.
King Abdullah reasserted his full support for the initiative and called for continued consultation between the private and public sectors to attain the aspired objectives.
Chief of the Royal Court Fayez Tarawneh and the Royal Court Economic Unit Director Basem Awadallah were present at the meeting.
Also on Wednesday, King Abdullah chaired a meeting of the government's economic team to review the state of the national economy as well as monetary and fiscal policy.
According to Prime Minister Ali Abul Ragheb, the King listened to progress reports on the creation of the Special Economic Zone in Aqaba and the privatization of state-run firms, with particular attention to the national air carrier, Royal Jordanian.
Abul Ragheb said he briefed King Abdullah on efforts to raise exports to the Iraqi and Palestinian markets as well as neighboring countries, and reviewed the government's progress on the social productivity plan which, he said, is being expanded to cover remote rural regions, the badia, refugee camps and other population settlements.
The premier said discussions also covered the privatization of the media, particularly the newspapers. . – (Jordan Times)
