An announcement was made on Sunday of plans to establish the ‘Sahara City’ township with seven new towers and a 27-floor hotel tower by Al Nahda Real Estate with an investment of Dh4 billion.
Work on the mega project of Al Nahda, which owns Sharjah's largest mall, Sahara Center, would begin early 2007, according to Khaleej Times. The project would more than double the size of Sharjah's landmark shopping mall.
The hotel tower, offering 258 serviced suites, and three new residential towers with more than 1,000 apartments, will be built above the mall. The apartment complexes consist of both two-bedroom and three-bedroom units.
The Sahara City project will increase the size of the existing mall by 60 per cent to 1.8 million square feet, while the height of the seven new towers will range from 27 to 33 floors, offering half a million square feet of new office space, 23 floors of parking and a 27-floor hotel suites.
"This is a very significant investment by the owners of Al Nahda Real Estate and Trading, and reflects our commitment to the UAE and Sharjah in particular," said Jean Pierre Nammour, Managing Director of Al Nahda Real Estate.
Nammour added that the project aims at giving a boost to Sharjah's efforts to attract more tourist and shoppers traffic.
