The Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) awarded a long-term contract at Gitex 2002 to Computer Network Systems (CNS) to purchase 26 automated teller machines (ATM)from Germany’s Wincor Nixdorf.
DIB, which has a network of 65 ATMs throughout the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is currently implementing an ambitious technology and marketing drive to upgrade its retail customer banking operations across the UAE.
The new ATMs from Wincor Nixdorf come equipped with features to facilitate effort-free interface between the bank and its retail customers. The new DIB machines will also offer functions such as account statements on A4 paper, envelope deposits for cash and cheques, and utility bill payments using a built-in bar code reader.
To ensure that the new ATMs are accessible for all, DIB has ensured ease of use for its physically challenged customers. For the wheel chair bound, the ATMs are fitted with bright, LCD screens and easily accessible card readers and keyboards. The units can also be fitted with voice assistance to enable blind people to carry out simple banking tasks.
According to DIB estimates, usage of its existing ATM network is an average 150 users per machine on a daily basis. The bank’s ATMs at its ladies-only counters have also proved popular.
Established on 1975, DIB is considered to be the first Islamic bank in the world that has implemented the principles of Islam in all its practices. It was founded with active assistance of the UAE Government, the Central Bank and people of the UAE. — (menareport.com)
