According to a document formulated by the Moroccan Ministry of Finance and Privatization, which was obtained by Reuters, Morocco is going to continue with its privatization plan of Morocco Telecom and sell its remaining share holding in this company. According to this document, dated July 11, the Moroccan government, which currently still holds 34% of the company, will sell its remaining shares by the end of 2006.
Maroc Telecom is Morocco's incumbent telecommunications operator, and the country's market leader in fixed-line and mobile telecommunications and Internet access. Since January 2005, Vivendi Universal holds 51% of Maroc Telecom, which is listed on the Casablanca and Paris stock exchanges.
