Dubai International Airport Fire Services has acquired the latest in fire fighting technology— the Smoky simulator, developed to simulate the low visibility conditions encountered by fire fighters and other rescue personnel without the use of fire or smoke. Smoky is a remote controlled visor fitted over the breathing apparatus worn by fire fighters undergoing training.

The simulator allows the instructor to control a trainee’s visibility from fully clear to fully obscure or anywhere in between. The in-and-out visibility can also be simulated, with no dangerous or air polluting fires required to expose the trainee to low visibility conditions.

“This equipment is the only one of its kind in the region. It will help us train our personnel and others in the region that requests it. The Department of Civil Aviation has always maintained a very high standard of service provided to all customers and this is one area that is absolutely critical to our safety standards,” DCA Fire Advisor Richard Radford commented. — (menareport.com)
