According to reports in Al-Goumhariya daily, Egyptian businessman Ahmad Issa Badir was recently detained in Suez for supposedly attempting to forge commercial ties with Israel.
The report stated that Badir had contacted the commercial attaché at the Israeli Embassy in Cairo to propose the establishment of a joint project to build a hotel on the coast of Sinai. Badir reportedly owns the plot of land in Dahab on which he wished to construct the resort.
A representative from Egypt’s foreign ministry said that the government had no knowledge of such an incident, and that Egyptian citizens were free to do as they pleased. ― (MENA Report)
