Egyptian ministers disagree with pharmaceutical protection laws

Addressing a recent conference in Cairo about “the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry under the intellectual property protection law regulations,” the Egyptian Undersecretary of Health, Tharwat Basily, stated that the intellectual property agreement (Trips) signed by Egypt in 1995 is the a major challenge for the national pharmaceutical industry. Specialists not only from Egypt but also from many other countries criticized the agreement because it disregards the 20 year-long monopoly of for the patent right owner, reported Al-Suhuf. Egyptian specialists believe that some of the agreement’s articles must be rectified. — (menareport.com)
