Foreign reports estimate Egyptian pharmaceuticals consumption to reach 18 billion Egyptian Pounds ($3.9 billion) in 2005 and EP 139 billion in 2020, reported Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. The same report also revealed that up to 70 percent of pharmaceutical consumption will be satisfied by imports from abroad. Nevertheless, the Egyptian Undersecretary of Health, Tharwat Basily did not agree with these predictions and said that the Egyptian pharmaceutical factories are capable of satisfying 90 percent of the local demand. — (menareport.com)
