Emirates Internet & Multimedia (EIM), Etisalat’s Internet business unit, has embarked on a series of initiatives that are aimed at facilitating Internet usage in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Emirates Internet & Multimedia (EIM) is offering a rebate on its high-speed Internet service for households, Al-Shamil, during the ongoing Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), according to a company press release. The special offer, which is valid from March 9 through to April 11, 2002, includes a waiver of the registration fee, along with one month’s free Internet subscription.
EIM General Manager Maroua Naim said that the special offer was aimed at helping residents of the UAE take full advantage of the power of high speed Internet access, based on the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology. DSL is a technology that transforms ordinary telephone lines into high-speed digital lines for Internet access and other broadband applications.
The Al-Shamil service is priced at 250 Emirati dirhams ($68) per month for unlimited Internet usage along with a one-time registration charge of Dh200. During the duration of the special offer, customers opting for the Al-Shamil service will be offered a complete waiver of the registration charge, along with one month’s free subscription at the end of the first year.
As part of the Al-Shamil package, EIM also offers customers a choice of two high-speed modems at attractive sale prices. While the External USB DSL Modem retails for Dh660, the Internal PCI DSL modem is priced at Dh600.
The Al-Shamil service, which was first launched in October 2000, differs from regular dial-ups in that it offers always-on Internet connectivity at a highly competitive fixed monthly cost. Users can access the Internet at speeds that are up to 10 times faster than dial-up Internet access because the service offers download speeds of up to 384 kbps and upload speeds of up to 128 kbps.
In November, 2000 EIM launched the first EIM Learning Center in Dubai, a community initiative to provide free Internet classes to UAE residents. Other services launched by EIM, over the past year include the launch of an online registration facility for new Internet subscribers, Internet Roaming & Dial & Surf Services, the Internet PC and free Registration offers and the Al-Shamil and BusinessOne services, which offer high-speed Internet access for households and businesses respectively. — (menareport.com)
