The Fujairah-based ceramic tiles manufacturer, Emirates Ceramic Factory (ECF), plans to market its products in south India, starting with the state of Kerala, in the year 2003. ECF’s tiles, marketed under the Fujairah Ceramics brand, would be available in 50 retail outlets across the state.
Another Emirati ceramics firm, Ras Al-Khaimah’s RAK Ceramics, already distributes its products in Kerala. ECF is hoping to capture an initial 15 percent market share, building on the familiarity of UAE-employed Malayali expatriates with its products.
Already exporting its tiles to 42 countries worldwide, including the US, Germany, Greece, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, through a 300-strong dealer network. ECF is now looking to further expand to emerging markets in Asia and Africa.
Established in 1981, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) company develops, produces and markets glazed floor and wall ceramic tiles throughout the Middle East. Owned by the Fujairah government, ECF controls 20 percent of the UAE tile market and sees a turn over of $36 million annually. It has an annual production capacity of three million square meters, 75 percent of which is reportedly directed for export, and has a workforce of over 150 employees. — (menareport.com)
