Oil and gas companies are increasingly using computerized reservoir simulation to find, produce and manage oil and gas reserves. Emirates Computers (EC) has recently won two contracts to supply customized reservoir simulation software, based on 3-D seismic technology.
These contracts include the supply of an Origin 300 server to the Landmark Graphics Corporation’s Dubai office, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton Company and a provider of software and services for the upstream oil and gas industry. The second deal was signed with at Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil (ADCO operations) for the upgrade of the existing 32 CPU Origin2000 with and supplying an additional 32 CPU Origin3400 Parallel Supercomputer.
Landmark Graphics is the first company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to acquire the Origin 300 server, which will be used to run an Oracle database and NFS shares and to be a holding place from which applications are launched.
ADCO operates onshore and in shallow coastal water of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Company operates and produces oil mainly from five fields Asab, Bab, Bu Hasa, Sahil and Shah. The new machine will be used for reservoir simulation for these fields. The additional 32 processors of the Origin3000 will be split between the various asset teams in ADCO, where reservoir engineers will simulate the effect of ADCO drilling and injection decisions.
Launched in 1978, EC is a UAE-based technology company. EC provides solutions and professional services, ranging from mobile communication devices to advanced supercomputers, from small LANs to integrated, multimedia WANs and from internally developed bilingual applications to enterprise-wide management and decision support systems. — (menareport.com)
