Dubai airline Emirates signed an agreement with Germany’s federal police Bundespolizei to make travel documentation screening more effective on its routes to the European country.
Under the agreement, specially trained Emirates personnel with extensive knowledge of Germany’s immigration procedures will conduct documentation checks at Dubai International Airport for passengers travelling to Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Dusseldorf. A secondary documentation screening check will also be conducted at the gate prior to boarding the aircraft, the airline said in a statement.
The move will help will reduce the likelihood of transporting passengers without correct documentation while reducing the time Emirates passengers spend going through immigration upon arrival in Germany. The new procedures have already been put into effect on all Emirates flights into the country.
The agreement is indicative of tightening security after a number of incidents that compromised security of air passengers. Earlier this year, a Russian passenger plane – en route to Russia from Egypt’s Sharm Al Sheikh- was downed by a bomb planted on board by militant group Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. Official have vowed to step up security following the incident.
