The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing a regional expert group meeting on “Secure Housing and Land Tenure and Good Urban Governance”, from December 15 to 18, 2003 at the Conrad Hotel, Cairo, Egypt.
Organized in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, the General Authority for Urban Planning in Egypt, the League of Arab States, and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT), this meeting represents the first activity organized by ESCWA under the umbrella of the Regional Campaign on Secure Housing and Land Tenure and Good Urban Governance, emanating from the Habitat Global campaigns on these themes.
The meeting aims at providing a specialized research basis in relation to Secure Tenure and Good Urban Governance in an attempt to establish the content, dimensions and action plan of the Regional Campaign in ESCWA Member States.
Participants in the meeting will be representatives of the public and private sectors, local authorities, intellectuals, media experts, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations. They will be presenting number of selected national experiences in ESCWA countries. Concerned researchers, academics, and experts will also participate and present specialized concept papers. — (menareport.com)
