The Emirates Minister of Communication and Chairman of the Board of the Emirates Telecommunication Company (Etisalat), Ahmed Hameed Tayer, revealed that Etisalat’s total profits grew by 15 percent in 2001 despite the substantial discount rates offered by the company this past year, reported Al-Watan . The company’s profits increased to 2.7 billion Emirati Dirhams ($735 million) in 2001, up from Dh 2.3 billion in the previous year of 2000. The minister added that the expansion and modernization projects launched by Etisalat last year saved the United Arab Emirates’ treasury nearly one billion dollars. — (menareport.com)
