FL Smidth wins supply order from Saudi Qassim Cement

Denmark’s FL Smidth has signed a €40 million supply contract with Saudi Arabia’s Qassim Cement. The firm will equip a new cement production line located north of Riyadh.

The contract was awarded by the Japanese company Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) which has entered into a turnkey contract with the client for a new 4,500-ton cement per day production line.

The order comprises a crusher, an ATOX raw mill and two UMS cement mills plus four FL Smidth Materials Handling raw material stores and an FL Smidth Airtech bag filter. Gearboxes and two packing lines will be supplied by MAAG Gear and Ventomatic, respectively. FL Smidth will also provide supervision and spare parts for the project.

FL Smidth has previously supplied machinery and equipment to Saudi Arabian cement producers, but this is the first time it will be supplying to Qassim Cement. “In Saudi Arabia alone, the population is growing 3.2 percent per annum, which combined with improved standards of living translates into cement consumption growth in excess of half a million tons per year,” said CEO of FL Smidth, Frank Gad.

The machinery and equipment will be delivered over the next 15 months and the production line is expected to come on stream at the end of 2005. — (menareport.com)
