Expatriate workers employed in the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states—Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)—have remitted some $22.7 billion to their home countries in 2001.
Nearly 70 percent of the total funds were transferred from Saudi Arabia, amounting to $15.7 billion, while the rest originated from the UAE (three billion dollars), Kuwait (three billion dollars) and the other Gulf states. — (menareport.com)
