A report recently publicized by the United Nation Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) revealed that nearly three million inhabitants of southern Sudan are now suffering from severe starvation and bad living conditions. This population is suffering from a dangerous food shortage caused by the ongoing civil war and drought.
According to Al-Hayat newspaper, the report estimates the grains output in Sudan at 3.6 million tons by the end of 2000. Despite the fact that this output production level is 14 percent higher than last year’s, it remains lower than the average local grain production level in the past five years. ¯ (Albawaba-MEBG)
