The Lebanese Ministry of Industry reported this week that investments in the industrial sector increased by 118 percent year-on-year to 6.7 billion Lebanese pounds ($4.44 million) in January 2001, compared to LP 3.1 billion ($2.06 million) in the same month last year.
In addition, 340 jobs were created by new industrial firms in January, 144.6 percent higher than last year. On a year-to-year basis, the number of firms established in January rose by 130 percent to 46, while industrial imports amounted to $6.55 million. — (Banque du Liban et d'Outre-Mer Sal)
