Iran's average corn production is 32 percent higher than the global rate, said an Iranian official in charge of a corn cultivation project.

According to IRIB, Kamal Zabihi said that based on statistics available, global corn yield is 4.2 tons per hectare while in Iran it is 6.6 tons.

He added Iran is currently importing 16 million tons of corn, and this will drop by six million tons once a project to increase production to about 9.5 million tons comes on stream.
