Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Javad Ouji announced Iran and Iraq will sign a gas deal on Sunday, based on which Tehran would start pumping gas to Baghdad by the next one and half month.
"The gas deal between National Iranian Gas Co. and Iraqi Energy Ministry will be signed by Iranian Oil Minister and Iraqi Deputy Energy Minister," Ouji told ISNA.
Iran would send 25 million cubic meters of gas daily to Iraq according to the agreement, he said.
The construction of the 48-inch pipeline is being accomplished both in Iran and Iraq. The Iranian section of the pipeline is 227 kilometers long and the Iraqi part is 270 kilometers. The construction process in Iraq has been slowed down due to security issues.
He further added Iran and Iraq would sign another gas deal by the next two months, based on which Iran would pump 20 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq daily.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
