In its review of next year (starting March 21, 2005) budget bill, the Iranian parliament (Majlis) on Wednesday decided to reduce the tariffs on car imports to 100 percent. The decision was made in an open session of the Parliament, which was aimed at paving the grounds for foreign car imports to facilitate the enhancement of the qualities of the domestic cars, optimize their fuel consumption rate, improve the public transportation system as well as reduce the public transportation costs.

According to the Majlis ratifications, imposition of a maximum of 100 percent tariff on the passenger cars and 20 percent at most for the buses, minibuses and trucks is mandatory. According to MNA, the importers of the vehicles should also provide the required after-sales services.
